IP History
The protection of inventions in Mongolia dates back to 1944 when it was first established. The granting of the first patent (Author's Certificate) took place on January 13, 1963.
The recognition of intellectual property (IP) was formalized in the Constitution of Mongolia in 1992. Article 7.2 of the Constitution states, "Intellectual property produced by citizens is the property of their authors and the national wealth of Mongolia."
The Intellectual Property Office of Mongolia, operating under the Ministry of Law and Home Affairs, serves as the governmental agency responsible for intellectual property and related matters. The IP office carries out all necessary duties and activities in accordance with the provisions of the Patent Law, Trademark & Geographical Indications Law, Copyright and related rights law, as well as other relevant regulations. Additionally, the office ensures compliance with international IP treaties and conventions of which Mongolia is a member.
Throughout its history, Mongolia has demonstrated a commitment to safeguarding intellectual property and providing legal frameworks to protect the rights of creators and innovators within the country. The IP office plays a crucial role in enforcing these laws and promoting a culture of innovation and creativity in Mongolia.
